Twitter

I am a little behind the technosavy curve when it comes to some of these social medias. I remember starting Facebook because a friend of mine said to try it out and then it went viral. Anyways, facebook is a bit boring for me and seems to have lost my interest just as myspace did years ago. So now on to something new and what seems a bit challening at the moment--twitter.
I need to learn how to tweet, I believe that is the word, and the lingo; as well as who to and not to follow. WOW, so much to try to figure out. Is there a tweeting 101 class. Any suggestions?

Walking again

Last Thursday I finally got my cast off. I was so relieved. I thought I would be able to drive once I got it off and was excited....Well that didn't happen. Although the ankle bones are healed there is still much tenderness on and around the joint. Lets not forget my achilles and calf muscles haven't been stretched and are extremely tight that I I am having a hard time walking. I got my big boot and trying to manuever with that is taking some getting used to. As the days go on, I am getting more mobile. At first I was using my crutches then went to a cane yesterday and today nothing. I need to keep adding heat to my joints to increase the flexibilty. I have 3 more weeks and then I will see what happens next...therapy?

Detox day 6 and 7

So the one thing that I felt this detox helped me was the fact I no longer needed allergy pills to combat the terrible pollen. Other than that nothing else notice. At this point my hunger pains became more frequent and I was becoming irritable. Not sure if this detox is one I will follow again, but I will certainly add it into my weekly diet.

Detox day 4 and 5

Wow, the days are going by fast. The recipes are changing. Its getting to be a challenge and I am hungrier more as the days go along. Every aroma smells like homemade baked bread. Go figure. Need some smoothies instead of juicing. Helps with the hunger. I am now at the point of thinking if this is worth it. Do I really want to live this type of lifestyle. Hmm. I contemplate about the foods that I wont be eating on a regular basis. Today, I was speaking with a friend about this matter. I really love food. I have an addiction. Seriously, I am a food addict. I really have to focus inorder to not get morbidly obese.  On the other hand, i don't like the way my body reacts to when I am not eating correctly. I am tired all the time. That is the reason why I studied nutrition. The doctors couldn't help  me so I had to help myself.  Eating properly not only helped my waistline but increased my energy.
Sooo, I just have to remind myself of these reasons why a season detox is good for the body and avoiding those high greasy fatty foods isn't really worth it. Its like alcohol. I dont like the feel of being dehydrated the next day so I refuse to drink it. I need to come to a place like with the foods I eat.

Day 2 and Day 3 of Detox

I am in the mid point of Day 3 for my detox. Let me first reflect on Day 2.

Day 2 Detox.
The recipes were pretty much the same haven''t felt any changes. Apparently, I didn't have much toxins in my body. Tired from cooking on one leg and doing household chores.

Day 3
Today, was a start of changing up on the recipes. I started with my lemonade type drink. A bit more hungry today. I do see the belly going down. I have 2 smoothies today with some juicing mixtures.
No headaches or excessive tiredness. The first time I did a detox, I remember my headaches and boy they were irritating. I just assumed that I would have them again. I do need to keep in mind to keep drinking water and lots of it.

Also, today is shopping day for days 4 thru 5.
An idea of what it cost me at Trader Joes for organice foods for the next 4 days came to under 70.00.
17.50 a day to juice 5 times. Not bad. What an investment in me.

Day 1 of detox

The day is almost over and I can't believe the fabulous tasting drinks these are. When I look at the ingredients of kale, spinach, watercress with beets cucumbers pineapple or apples it just doesn't seem like it would taste great. On the contrary, they are sweet and oh so delicious. I have one more drink to go and some mint tea before bed.

I feel tired today. Not sure if its from the excess sugar I ate the days preceeding up to my detox or if it is the detox itself.

I never once was hungry as I was juicing ever 3 hours.

My habits did tend to cross my mind from time to time. There would be lapse of memory where i would think, it would be nice to eat this or that today. Maybe I will have it and then i have to quickly refocus and remind myself I am detox. Tonight, my son had his first soccer practice and after practice I almost asked if he would like to go to sweet frog for some yogurt. Just as the words were about to pass my lips, I caught myself.

Although this is to help one out mentally, it isn't that hard. You do have to mentally prepare yourself to by-pass your mind telling you that you want some chocoloate or chips or whatever you think you are craving. I am not depriving myself of those things as anyone who diets shouldn't deprive themselves of the foods they love. Its I am making a choice to eat healthier so I may cleanse the inside as I do the outside.

Preparation for Detox Days

So today we ventured out early to begin our morning exercise at the park for some playtime. Of course I get to only sit at the table while watching the kids play. Its so beautiful at 11 am before the hear really starts blazing. The nice breeze. It was fantastic.

Today is geared for preparation for detox. A shopping we will go. My list is made and our first stop will CNU farmers market. I recently heard about the local college starting its own farmers market so I thought to check it out. Not much was there and since I am not a cash carrying gal, I had to pass on the one item I needed for my list. Off to Dean and Dons for some freash grown vegetables and fruits. This looks like the place I will be visiting for most of my items from now on. Hobbling along with my two helpers gathering my items in my shopping cart. Found most of all I needed and out we go. On to our next store to finish off the list. We ended up going to Vitamin Shoppe, Trader Joes, and lastly Fresh Market to finish off the list.

Preparation is key to making sure I don't deviate from my detox and not fall back on old habits. Its time to get rid of the toxins from sugar, processed foods, and pain medications that I have endoured this past month since breaking my ankle.

Tomorrow begins the day and feel free to follow me on my detox journey of juicing and the rest of my life in changing how I eat. Cleaning the inside out. I keep post of how I am feeling as the days go along.

B3 therapy and alcohol

Being that it is Sunday, a very relaxing warm day, I decided to do a bit of research on foods and its benefits. I watched a documentary and read about Bill Wilson, co founder of AA.

Apparently, Niacin (B3) was discovered to help Mr. Wilson overcome his addiction to alcohol. He took 3000mg of Niacin. The doctors that he had been working with were prescribing this to their patients for mental illnesses who also dealt with alcoholism.
As I sit here day in and day out, I am learning more about the self healing aspects of our foods that we have available to us to cure our bodies. We all have the ability to be our own healers by spending more emphasis on the foods that we take in than our hobbies, cars or houses. We should be investing in ourselves!!

To read more information on Bill Wilson check out doctoryourself.com or google b wilson, niacin. alcoholics anonomous.

Seaweed

The other day I visited Trader Joe's for a few of my regular items and hobbled (still on crutches) across a package of dehydrated spicy seaweed salad. I recently tried seaweed at an Asian restaurant and liked it so I thought might as well give this a try. I know it has many health benefits, but couldn't quite remember what. After researching into its nutritional value here are some benefits of why we should be eating seaweed.
-Rich in amino acids, potassium, calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, contains beta carotene and vitamin C.
-This vegetable offers satiety because it's full of fiber and extremely low cal, approximately 5 to 20 calories.

If your looking for a meatless meal or you may be a vegetarian, seaweed is a the go to food. I added some spicy sauce to it cause I can't stomach eating by itself. Experiment with the different flavors. For some, this may an easy dish to devour immediately, while others need to obtain an acquired taste.

"Known and Loved"

I am a woman of no distinction

of little importance
I am a women of no reputation
save that which is bad

You whisper as I pass by and cast judgmental glances
Though you don’t really take the time to look at me
Or even get to know me

For to be known is to be loved
And to be loved is to be known
Otherwise what’s the point in doing
either one of them in the first place

I WANT TO BE KNOWN

I want someone to look at my face
And not just see two eyes, a nose,
a mouth and two ears
But to see all that I am, and could be
all my hopes, loves and fears

But that’s too much to hope for, to wish for,
or pray for
So I don’t, not anymore

Now I keep to myself
And by that I mean the pain that keeps me in my own private jail
The pain that’s brought me here at midday to
this well

To ask for a drink is no big request but to ask it of me
A woman unclean, ashamed, Used and abused
An outcast a failure a disappointment, a sinner.

No drink passing from these hands to your lips could ever be refreshing
Only condemning,
as I’m sure you condemn me now
But you DON’t!

You’re a man of no distinction
Though of the utmost importance
A man with little reputation, at least so far

You whisper and tell me to my face
what all those glances have been about and
You take the time to really look at me
But don’t need to get to know me

For to be known is to be loved and
To be loved is to be known

And you know me
You actually know me
all of me and everything about me
Every thought inside and hair on top of my head
Every hurt stored up, every hope, every dread

My past and my future, all I am and could be
You tell me everything,
you tell me about ME

And that which is spoken by another would bring hate and condemnation
Coming from you brings love, grace, mercy, hope and salvation

I’ve heard of one to come
who could save a wretch like me
And here in my presence, you say
I AM HE

To be known is to be loved
And to be loved is to be known
And I just met you

I don’t know you but I want to get to

Let me run back to town
this is way to much for just me
There are others: brothers, sisters, lovers, haters,
the good and the bad, sinners and saints
who should hear what you’ve told me
who should see what you’ve shown me
who should taste what you gave me
who should feel how you forgave me

For to be known is to be loved

And to be loved is to be known

And they all need this too

We all do, We need it for our own.

Juicing Recipes

Fitgurlgo fitness on FB sent out a notice about a documentary to watch on Netfix called hungry for change. I asked some friends to watch to help motivate them as well as myself to make changes in the way one eats.
So...now I am in search of reciepes for juicing. I know that juicing its as health as eating whole fruits in vegetables because of the loss of fiber; however, it can be very difficult to get all the nutrients one may need in a day. Also, i am not a big fan of beets unless I am cooking in in  my chocolate cake. Yes, you see it. I have a reciepe for beets inside my cake.
After sitting her day in and day out for almost a month, the weight has packed on me and boy are the clothes getting snug. I no longer can wear a pair of my jeans. Everyday is a sweats day. Salads and soups get old and when it comes to cooking, if I can prepare it quick that its not getting made. Standing on one leg gets a bit tiresome after awhile. With all that being said, if you have a favorite juicing reciepe and dont mind sharing please share.

Introduction

Hello To All,

My name is Sarina. I created this blog as a way to just get together and talk about anything. Small chat and an opportunity to write more. Recently, I broke my ankle so sitting in front of my computer is what I do most. For the first week or two, I got caught up on all the hulu and netflix shows that I could withstand. You see I don't have television.
A little about myself. I am a mom and a wife who loves fitness and nutrition. Although, my eating habits do get lacksy daisy. Especially now. I hope to post information on fitness and nutrition and anything in between. Just a disclaimer...I can't prescribe anything and this is used for information perposes only. So...feel free to read and ask and chit chat. Whatever, should we be sitting in our cozy corner amongst friends.
